Plant-based alternatives

Fidesse® is a completely plant-based ingredient and can be used in plant-based alternatives to meat, such as a plant-based hamburger or finger foods. Fidesse® is made from sugar beet pulp, one of the side streams that is created during the processing of sugar beets into sugar. Sugar beet pulp contains virtually no sugars anymore.

Nutritional value and functionality

Fidesse® mainly consists of water and dietary fibers that occur naturally in sugar beet, such as pectins, cellulose and hemi-cellulose. It contains minimal amounts of digestible carbohydrates, fats and proteins and provides less than 20 kcal per 100 grams.
Fidesse® has a neutral taste and smell and provides bite and texture in foods. The fibrous network of dietary fibers can absorb and bind water. This contributes to the juiciness of the food in which it is processed, as the moisture absorbed by Fidesse® is released again during chewing.

Fits into a sustainable diet

A shift towards a more plant-based and less animal-based diet, in accordance with the Dutch dietary guidelines of the Health Council of the Netherlands, is beneficial for health and more sustainable. Fidesse® is made from the pulp of sugar beets grown in the Netherlands and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans as a completely vegetable ingredient.

Products incorporating Fidesse are expected to be introduced in the foreseeable future.
